Sigv Nesv 15I/2 — hríð ‘battle’

Hirð Ôleifs vann harða
hríð, en svá varðk bíða
(peitneskum feltk) páska,
palmsunnudag (hjalmi).

Hirð Ôleifs vann harða hríð palmsunnudag, en svá varðk bíða páska; feltk peitneskum hjalmi.

Óláfr’s following won a hard battle on Palm Sunday, and thus I had to await Easter; I put on a Poitou-made helmet.

[2] hríð: ‘rið’ all

[2] hríð ‘battle’: ‘Rið’ in the mss; following Norw. practice, spellings of <hr> as <r> are common in the Fsk mss.
