Anon Lil 59VII/7 — var ‘you were’

Eg segi riett, að einginn mætti
ógrátandi vörrum láta,
Jésú minn, ef letrið læsi,
linhjartaðr, af píslum þínum,
því að náttúran æpti af ótta
öll skjálfandi, en himnar sjálfir
týndu ljós, þá er berr var bundinn;
bifaðiz hauðr í þínum dauða.

Eg segi riett, að einginn mætti láta vörrum ógrátandi, Jésú minn, ef, linhjartaðr, læsi letrið af píslum þínum, því að náttúran æpti af ótta, öll skjálfandi, en himnar sjálfir týndu ljós, þá er var bundinn berr; hauðr bifaðiz í dauða þínum.

I say rightly that no one could speak without weeping, my Jesus, if, tenderhearted, he were to read the record of your sufferings, because nature cried out with fear, all quaking, and the heavens themselves lost light, when you were bound naked; the earth trembled at your death.
