Fyrir Máríu faðminn dýra,
fyrir Máríu grátinn sára,
lát mig þinnar lausnar njóta,
lifandi guð með feðr og anda.
Æfinliga með lyftum lófum,
lof ræðandi, á knie sín bæði
skepnan öll er skyld að falla,
skapari minn, fyrir ásjón þinni.
Fyrir dýra faðminn Máríu, fyrir sára grátinn Máríu, lát mig njóta lausnar þinnar, lifandi guð með feðr og anda. Æfinliga með lyftum lófum er öll skepnan, ræðandi lof, skyld að falla á bæði knie sín, skapari minn, fyrir ásjón þinni.
For the sake of Mary’s precious embrace, for the sake of Mary’s sorrowful weeping, let me experience your salvation, living God with Father and Spirit. Unceasingly, with lifted hands, uttering praise, all creation should fall on both its knees, my creator, before your face.

[4] lifandi guð með feðr og anda ‘living God with the Father and the Spirit’: The mention of the Father and the Holy Spirit indicates that the pronoun þinnar in l. 3 refers to Christ, the second person of the Trinity. The phrase echoes the standard liturgical formula for the conclusion of prayers: per Dominum nostrum Jesum Christum, Filium tuum, qui tecum vivit et regnat in unitate Spiritus Sancti, Deus per omnia sæcula sæculorum ‘through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God forever and ever’. Cf. the macaronic version in the Marian prayer from HómÍsl: ieſuſ chriſtuſ filiuſ tuuſ dominuſ noſter. ſa eſ í éiningo goþdómſ meþ feþur oc meþ helgom anda uiuit et regnat per omnia ſecula ſeculorum amen ‘Our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, he who lives and reigns in the unity of the Divinity with the Father and the Holy Spirit forever and ever, amen’ (HómÍsl 1993, 90v).
