Anon Sól 8VII/3 — honum ‘for him’

Auði né heilsu        ræðr enginn maðr,
        þótt honum gangi greitt;
margan þat sækir,        er minst of varir;
        enginn ræðr sættum sjálfr.

Enginn maðr ræðr auði né heilsu, þótt honum gangi greitt; þat sækir margan, er minst of varir; enginn ræðr sjálfr sættum.

No man has control over riches or health, though it may go smoothly for him; what he least expects comes upon many a man; no one can set his own terms.

readings

[3] honum: so papp15ˣ, 738ˣ, 167b 6ˣ, 1441ˣ, 10575ˣ, 2797ˣ, hann 166bˣ

notes

[3] honum ‘for him’: hann ‘he’ is the reading of 166bˣ and 20 other mss. Papp15ˣ, 738ˣ, and the great majority (49) of mss have honum ‘for him’ here, giving an impersonal cl. ‘though it may go smoothly for him’.
