Sól ek sá sjaldan hryggvari;
mjök var ek þá ór heimi hallr;
tunga mín var til trés metin
ok kólnat at fyrir utan.
Ek sá sól, sjaldan hryggvari; ek var þá mjök hallr ór heimi; tunga mín var metin til trés ok kólnat at fyrir utan.
I saw the sun, [I was] seldom more grief-stricken; I was then forcefully tilting out of this world; my tongue was as if turned to wood and it was chilled on the outside.
[6] kólnat: so 738ˣ, ‘kolnud’ 166bˣ, klofnat papp15ˣ
[6] kólnat ‘it was chilled’: The verb must be impers. here, as the n. p.p. cannot modify tunga f. (l. 4). Skald follows 166bˣ and emends to allow this: ok kólnuð allt fyr utan.
