Anon Nkt 71II/6 — logi ‘the flame’

Þótti ǫrr
ok ósvikall
faðir hans
flestum mǫnnum.
Vissi Loptr
und logi skýja
óvin sinn
engan fœddan.

Faðir hans þótti flestum mǫnnum ǫrr ok ósvikall. Loptr vissi engan óvin sinn fœddan und logi skýja.

His father seemed liberal and honest to most men. Loptr had no enemy born beneath the flame of the clouds [SUN].

[6] logi: ‘lo᷎fi’ Flat

notes

[6] logi (n. dat. sg.) ‘flame’: This emendation is conjectural. Flat has the nonsensical ‘lo᷎fi’, and Skj B emends to leið ‘path’ and reads und leið skýja ‘beneath the path of the clouds’, i.e. ‘beneath heaven’ (so also Skald). However, it is difficult to see how leið could have been corrupted to ‘lo᷎fi’. The noun in question must either be short-stemmed and disyllabic (resolved) or monosyllabic.
