The death of Eiríkr’s father [= Hákon] did not turn out well in Gauldalen, when Karkr the slave sliced the hat-support [HEAD] off Hákon with a knife.

[1] urðut * (3rd pers. pl. pret. indic.) ‘did not turn out’: Flat’s urðu ei ‘became not’ (late and unmetrical) has been emended to urðut with enclitic negation (see st. 6/2).
