Dýrka skyldi af allri orku
almætastan himna gæti;
skylda er það fyrir skírðar aldir;

One must worship the most glorious guardian of the heavens [= God] with all might; that is an obligation for baptised people; he is the true creator of all men. Most precious Lord, grant me that portion of glory, that I may encounter a pure hour of life-loss, so that foul spirits might not find any sins in me.

grammar

Pronouns and determiners: Definite article

The definite article is normally suffixed to nouns, except in some cases where it is used with an adjective. If the noun form ends in a vowel, the 'i' in the article is dropped. If the noun form ends in 'um', the 'm' and 'i' are both dropped. E.g. hesta (acc. pl.) > hestana (acc. pl. definite); hestum (dat. pl.) > hestunum (dat. pl. definite)
