Anon Mgr 32VII/4 —

Ítar*ligr og öllum mætri
— ár og friðr sie skapara várum —
máttugr giefr inn mildi dróttinn
móður sinni alt góða.
Yfirþjóðkonungs allra jöfra
öllu góðu í himna höllu
ræðr og stýrir mær og móðir
Máría sæl hjá dróttni várum.

Inn mildi dróttinn, máttugr, ítar*ligr og mætri öllum, giefr móður sinni alt góða; sie ár og friðr skapara várum. Mær og móðir yfirþjóðkonungs allra jöfra ræðr og stýrir öllu góðu í höllu himna, sæl Máría, hjá dróttni várum.

The generous Lord, mighty, glorious and more splendid than all, gives his mother everything good; may there be prosperity and peace for our Creator. The Virgin and mother of the supreme king of all princes [= God (= Christ) > = Mary] rules and governs everything good in the hall of the heavens, blessed Mary, next to our Lord.

grammar

Pronouns and determiners: Definite article

The definite article is normally suffixed to nouns, except in some cases where it is used with an adjective. If the noun form ends in a vowel, the 'i' in the article is dropped. If the noun form ends in 'um', the 'm' and 'i' are both dropped. E.g. hesta (acc. pl.) > hestana (acc. pl. definite); hestum (dat. pl.) > hestunum (dat. pl. definite)
