Kálf Kátr 11VII/2 —  ‘for’

Stillir frietti hljóði hvellu
hafnar glóða eik nafni;
fljóðið gjörði að birta bæði
baugs veitanda ætt og heiti.
Síðan spurði siklingr Þrúði
sævar bála sneldr í máli:
‘hvárt ætlar þú, hranna kertis,
hilmi, skorð, að sigra orðum?

Stillir frietti eik glóða hafnar hvellu hljóði nafni; fljóðið gjörði að birta veitanda baugs bæði ætt og heiti. Síðan spurði siklingr Þrúði bála sævar sneldr í máli: ‘hvárt ætlar þú, skorð kertis hranna, að sigra hilmi orðum?

The ruler asked the oak of the red-hot embers of the harbour [GOLD > WOMAN] in a shrill voice for her name; the woman was prepared to reveal to the giver of the ring [GENEROUS MAN] both her heritage and her name. Subsequently, the king asked the Þrúðr <goddess> of the fires of the sea [GOLD > WOMAN] harsh in his speech: ‘do you intend, prop of the candle of the waves [GOLD > WOMAN], to win victory over the prince with words?
