Anon Hsv 85VII/1 — Draumum ‘dreams’

Draumum sínum        skulu eigi dróttir trúa;
        tæla þeir ýta opt;
sofanda manni þykkir        þat, er sjálfr, þegar at vakir,
        æskir sér eða óaz.

Dróttir skulu eigi trúa draumum sínum; þeir tæla ýta opt; þat, er sjálfr æskir sér eða óaz, þegar at vakir, þykkir manni sofanda.

Men should not believe their dreams; they often deceive people; what he wishes for himself or fears when awake, appears to a man when asleep.

readings

[1] Draumum: óvinum 624

notes

[1] draumum ‘dreams’: 624 and the copy of it in AM 148 8°ˣ (fol. 73r, l. 18) have óvinum ‘enemies’, although Skj A reads ‘Dvmum’. The reading in 624 might have been influenced by Sól 19.
