Vertu eigi svá aumr, at þú eigi gáir
at vænta ins vildara hlutar,
né svá auðugr, at þér örvænt sé
meins á marga vega.
Vertu eigi svá aumr, at þú gáir eigi at vænta ins vildara hlutar, né svá auðugr, at sé þér örvænt meins á marga vega.
Do not be so miserable that you do not remember to expect the more pleasant fate, nor so wealthy that you are not dismayed by injury in many ways.
Pronouns and determiners: Definite article
The definite article is normally suffixed to nouns, except in some cases where it is used with an adjective. If the noun form ends in a vowel, the 'i' in the article is dropped. If the noun form ends in 'um', the 'm' and 'i' are both dropped. E.g. hesta (acc. pl.) > hestana (acc. pl. definite); hestum (dat. pl.) > hestunum (dat. pl. definite)
