Hringrk Lv 1VIII (Frið 39)/3 — döglinga ‘of princes’

Far þú eigi svá,         Friðþjófr, heðan,
dýrstr döglinga,         í döprum hug.
Mun ek þér gjafir         þínar launa
víst betr, en þik         um varir sjálfan.

Far þú eigi svá heðan, Friðþjófr, dýrstr döglinga, í döprum hug. Ek mun víst launa þér gjafir þínar betr, en þik sjálfan um varir.

Do not go from here in this way, Friðþjófr, most splendid of princes, in a downcast mood. I will reward you for your gifts certainly better than you yourself expect.

notes

[3] dýrstr döglinga ‘most splendid of princes’: Most eds, including this one, follow the wording of the A redaction mss (with the exception of 510), as it gives a metrically regular line.
