ǪrvOdd Ævdr 58VIII (Ǫrv 128)/5 — háva ‘high’

Mætta ek gammi         gljúfrum næri;
flaug hann með mik         fjarri löndum,
þar til er háva         hamra fundum;
lét mik hvílaz         í hreiðri sínu.

Ek mætta gammi næri gljúfrum; hann flaug með mik fjarri löndum, þar til er fundum háva hamra; lét mik hvílaz í hreiðri sínu.

I met with a vulture near some gullies; he flew with me far from lands until we came upon high cliffs; he allowed me to rest in his nest.

readings

[5] þar til er háva: þar til háva all

notes

[5]: With Skj B and Skald, the particle er has been added to the construction þar til er ‘until’ to give a text normalised to the period c. 1250-1300. Omission of er occurs in late texts (NS §261).
