ǪrvOdd Lv 24VIII (Ǫrv 57)/5 — Munu ‘will’

Nú hefi ek dýra         drengi talða,
þá er forðum mér         fylgðu úti.
Munu víst eigi         verða síðan
frægri fyrðar         í fólkroði.

Nú hefi ek talða dýra drengi, þá er fylgðu mér forðum úti. Víst munu eigi fyrðar verða síðan frægri í fólkroði.

Now I have enumerated the noble warriors who formerly followed me out to sea. Men will certainly not afterwards become more famous in the army-reddening [BATTLE].

readings

[5] Munu víst eigi: so 471, munu einigir 7, því munu engir 344a, munu engir 343a

notes

[5] víst munu eigi ‘will certainly not’: The reading of 471 has been preferred, with Skj B and Skald, to that of 7’s munu einigir ‘will no’, because the latter does not provide alliteration for ll. 5-6. Ǫrv 1888 and 1892 emend to munu víst engir ‘certainly will no’.
