ǪgmEyb Lv 1VIII (Ǫrv 31)/3 — inn ‘the’

Beiði ek Geirrøð         með goða hylli,
kappa inn stærsta,         koma mér at bjarga,
ok beðju mína         beint sem aðra;
þarf ek nú allra         þeira gengis.

Ek beiði Geirrøð með hylli goða, kappa inn stærsta, koma at bjarga mér, ok beðju mína beint sem aðra; nú þarf ek gengis allra þeira.

I implore Geirrøðr, with the favour of the gods, the greatest champion, to come and rescue me, and my bed-fellow likewise along with the others; now I need the help of them all.

grammar

Pronouns and determiners: Definite article

The definite article is normally suffixed to nouns, except in some cases where it is used with an adjective. If the noun form ends in a vowel, the 'i' in the article is dropped. If the noun form ends in 'um', the 'm' and 'i' are both dropped. E.g. hesta (acc. pl.) > hestana (acc. pl. definite); hestum (dat. pl.) > hestunum (dat. pl. definite)
