Anon (Heiðr) 1bVIII (Heiðr 18 [b])

Hverr er einn saman         í ey kominn?
Gakktu greiðliga         gistingar til.

Hverr er kominn einn saman í ey? Gakktu greiðliga til gistingar.

Who has come alone onto the island? Go quickly to your lodging.

readings

[3] greiðliga: sýsliga 2845, ‘skiæliga’ R715ˣ

notes

[3] greiðliga ‘quickly’: The present edn follows the emendation of other eds, supported in meaning by the reading of 2845, sýsliga ‘busily, smartly, speedily’. Ms. R715ˣ’s reading, ‘skiælega’, is not an Old Norse word. In his edn, based on this ms., Verelius (Heiðr 1672, 89) prints ‘skiælega’ and translates snarlig ‘speedily’.
