HlǫðH Lv 3VIII (Heiðr 114)/1 — Taki ‘Seize’

Taki þér Gizur         …
mann Angantýs,         kominn af Árheimum!

Taki þér Gizur … mann Angantýs, kominn af Árheimum!

Seize Gizurr … Angantýr’s man, come from Árheimar!

notes

[1] taki þér ‘seize’: The ‑ð in the 2nd pers. pl. pres. indic. was dropped before þér. The pron. was originally ér (takið ér), but the ‑ð was reanalysed as the onset of the pron. (cf. ANG §531.4a). Other eds (Skj B, Skald, Heiðr 1873, Edd. Min.) emend to takið þér, but this is unnecessary.
