Anon (Heiðr) 8VIII (Heiðr 89)/5 — Árheima ‘Árheimar’

Hlöðr reið austan,         Heiðreks arfi;
kom hann at garði,         þar er Gotar byggja,
á Árheima         arfs at kveðja;
þar drakk Angantýr         erfi Heiðreks *.

Hlöðr reið austan, arfi Heiðreks; hann kom at garði, þar er Gotar byggja, at kveðja arfs á Árheima; þar drakk Angantýr erfi Heiðreks *.

Hlǫðr rode from the east, Heiðrekr’s heir; he came to the court where the Goths live, to ask for his inheritance at Árheimar; there Angantýr was drinking Heiðrekr’s wake.

notes

[5] Árheima ‘Árheimar’: Lit. ‘River-homes’. Unknown outside Heiðr, where it occurs also in Heiðr 114/4 and in a few places in the prose (Heiðr 1960, 46-7, 53). It is said to be á Danparstǫðum (Heiðr 1960, 46) ‘on the banks of the Dnieper’, but the location has not been identified.
