Skyldi ekki stynja, þó at stór hlyti
sár í sóknum, siklings vinir,
né benjar sér binda láta,
fyrr en annars dags jafnlengð kæmi.

The friends of the king should not moan, even if they received great wounds in combat, nor have their wounds dressed, before the same time of the following day arrived.
[7-8] fyrr en jafnlengð annars dags kæmi ‘before the same time of the following day arrived’: That is, before twenty-four hours had elapsed. Presumably, the idea was to ensure the men were toughened by bearing the pain of their wounds before allowing them to be bound up.
