Context: Angantýr gets up from the table and arms himself with mailcoat, shield and the sword Tyrfingr. A clamour arises in the hall, sem hér segir ‘as it says here’.
Notes: [All]: Edd. Min. assumes two lines have been lost after ll. 1-2, but nothing is missing from the syntax or the sense of the stanza as it stands. — [1] rymr var í ranni ‘there was uproar in the hall’: A formulaic description: cf. Bragi Rdr 3/5III Rósta varð í ranni ‘There was tumult in the hall’, Hamð 23/1 (NK 272), Styrr varð í ranni ‘There was uproar in the hall’ and, in Old English, Beowulf l. 1302a (Beowulf 2008, 45), Hrēam wearð on Heorote ‘There was uproar in Heorot’. — [6]: The line also occurs in Sigsk 17/2, 45/2 and (in the pl.) 50/4, and in Ǫrv 10/2.
