Hharð Lv 9^II

This helmingr (Hharð Lv 9), in which Haraldr and Sneglu-Halli compose alternate ll. (see SnH Lv 4), is recorded in Sneglu-Halla þáttr (Snegl) in Mork, Flat and H-Hr. Snegl is also preserved in AM 593 b 4° (593b; c. 1440-1500), from a sister ms. of Flat, and in AM 563 a 4°ˣ (563aˣ; c. 1650-99), in addition to several later paper mss of no value (see ÍF 9, cxiv). Both 593b and 563aˣ are inferior copies, but because variants from these mss are included in Skj A and are used for the eds of the sts from Snegl in both Skj B and Skald, they have been considered in the present edn as well. Context: King Haraldr is walking along the streets of Trondheim with his retainers, and one of his poets, the Icelander Sneglu-Halli (SnH), is in his company. Suddenly Halli rushes ahead, and the helmingr is the ensuing verbal exchange between Haraldr and Halli.
