All other conjectures in this st. proposed by Finnur Jónsson (1887). — [4] aflsteldr ‘mighty’: This is the only occurrence of this cpd in ON. In LP, Finnur Jónsson suggests that the second element is from a verb *stella, related to the late OIcel. stelling ‘mast-step’ (MIcel. ‘posture, stance’). — [4] … veldi ‘…-power’: Sveinbjörn Egilsson proposed meginveldi ‘mighty kingdom’ here, but there is no evidence for the first element of his conjecture.
