Notes: [6] einn réttr ‘the one true’: The letters are partially damaged but legible nevertheless. This reading is found in Sveinbjörn Egilsson 1833, but Finnur Jónsson (1887 and Skj A) and Kock (cf. NN §2132) apparently could not read the ‘re’. Sveinbjörn’s reading was restored by Jón Helgason 1932. Kock suggested einréttr (NN §§2132, 2492). — [6] þvíat ‘because’: Emendation proposed by Jón Helgason 1932-3. — [6] beinir ‘furthers’: Emendation proposed by Kock (NN §2132). There may possibly have been a nasal stroke over the first ‘i’ which is no longer visible. — [8] farnaði ‘fortune’: Emendation proposed (along with the alternative lifnaði ‘conduct of life’) by Jón Helgason 1932-3. Finnur Jónsson (1887 and Skj B) has búnaði ‘household’.
