There is some discrepancy between sources as to the length of Hákon’s reign. Theodoricus (MHN 11) gives thirty years, HN (MHN 115) and Oddr Snorrason (ÓTOdd 1932, 114) thirty-three years. Ágr (ÍF 29, 16) states that he ruled for twenty years after the death of Haraldr. It appears that the thirty-three years assigned to the length of his rule also include the thirteen years he was jarl in Trøndelag after the death of his father (see ÍF 26, 239; Ólafía Einarsdóttir 1964, 177-80).
