Harsh-ruling Hákon jarl received {Hárr’s <= Óðinn’s> wife} [= Jǫrð (jǫrð ‘earth’)] after Haraldr’s death. That lord ruled {Þundr’s <= Óðinn’s> bedmate} [= Jǫrð (jǫrð ‘earth’)] for thirteen and twenty years.

Notes: [All]: There is some discrepancy between sources as to the length of Hákon’s reign. Theodoricus (MHN 11) gives thirty years, HN (MHN 115) and Oddr Snorrason (ÓTOdd 1932, 114) thirty-three years. Ágr (ÍF 29, 16) states that he ruled for twenty years after the death of Haraldr. It appears that the thirty-three years assigned to the length of his rule also include the thirteen years he was jarl in Trøndelag after the death of his father (see ÍF 26, 239; Ólafía Einarsdóttir 1964, 177-80). — [5] sá réð tyggi ‘that lord ruled’: The l. is in fornyrðislag rather than in kviðuháttr metre. Kock (NN §3244) suggests the emendation of tyggi ‘lord’ to the unattested adj. týgildr (lit. ‘god-splendid’). — [8] beðju Þundar ‘Þundr’s <= Óðinn’s> bedmate [= Jǫrð (jǫrð ‘earth’)]’: See Note to st. 8/1-2.
