The grieving woman constantly went to mass in the capital city, where a magnificent house, a church dear to God stood, the minster made for Mary out of stone, and a high tower, where {ring-norn <goddess of fate>} [WOMAN] often mourned with prayers for a child.

Notes: [1] sótti (3rd pers. sg. pret. indic.) ‘went’: The subject is in the sg. and sóttu ‘went’ (so both mss) is in the pl. — [3] klient ‘magnificent’: This is a loanword from MLG klēn ‘beautiful, pure, fine’ (see AEW: klénn). — [5] musterið ‘the minster’: For this word, see Note to Vitn 14/7. — [5] gjört ‘made’: The l. lacks internal rhyme, and Skald emends to reist ‘erected’ (p.p. of reisa ‘erect’). — [7] þar er ‘where’: Both Skj B and Skald omit the rel. particle er and treat the cl. as a main cl.
