‘A loving disciple of glorious Christ, who is called Joseph, took the body of our redeemer from the Cross and wrapped it in cloth, and I was near then. We, my sisters and Magdalene, were eager to embrace and kiss {the dead lord {of the land of the moon}} [SKY/HEAVEN > = God (= Christ)]’; thus speaks {the most wise mother of the Lord} [= Mary].

Notes: [2, 3] lærisveinn íturs Krists ‘disciple of glorious Christ’: This was Joseph of Arimathea, who, according to Matt. XXVII.58 and John XIX.38, was a disciple of Christ. See also Mar (1871, xviii): Siðan kom einn sǫmiligr maðr af Arimathia Joseph af nafni. hverr er var einn af. lærisveinvm mins herra Jesu Kristz ‘Then came a honourable man from Arimathea by the name of Joseph, who was one of the disciples of my Lord Jesus Christ’. Earlier eds take íturs Krists ‘of glorious Christ’ in apposition to lausnara várs ‘of our redeemer’ (l. 1). — [5] fýsti oss ‘we were eager’: The verb fýsa ‘be eager, long for’ is used impersonally with oss ‘us’ as the object.
