‘Skjöldungr, lát mig skilja aldri,
skýja hauðrs, við þig lífs nie dauðan.
Er það vón, að unni eg meira
eingietnum syni Kristi hreinum
en þau sprund, er ala með syndum
eldi sín með harm og pínu.’
Heyrið það, er heilug Máría kvaddi hjálpargladdan Jésúm: ‘{Skjöldungr {hauðrs skýja}}, lát mig aldri skilja við þig lífs nie dauðan. Það er vón, að eg unni eingietnum syni, hreinum Kristi, meira en þau sprund, er ala eldi sín með syndum með harm og pínu.’
Hear that with which holy Mary greeted salvation-cheered Jesus: ‘{Lord {of the land of clouds}} [SKY/HEAVEN > = God (= Christ)], let me never part from you alive or dead. It is to be expected, that I should love my only-begotten son, the pure Christ, more than those women who bear their children in sins with sorrow and torment.’

Notes: [All]: The content of this st. is mirrored in a lengthy speech by Mary in Mar (1871, 1007). — [4]: Skald inserts the excrescent -u- in hauðrs ‘of the land’ (hauðurs) and deletes lífs nie ‘alive or’. Those emendations are unnecessary, because the l. is metrical as it stands in the ms.
