Kátrínam fyr miskunn mæta
mætur leiddi í hæsta sæti
guðs unnasti himins og hennar;
hennar nafn er sælt meðal kvenna.

The high-born woman received death by the sword; milk then bled from [her] veins; pure angels covered her true body with a marble stone. The precious beloved of God and of her led Catherine to the highest seat of heaven on account of precious mercy; her name is blessed among women.

Notes: [6-7] mætur unnasti guðs og hennar ‘the precious beloved of God and of her’: Hennar (gen. sg.) ‘of her’ is understood by Finnur Jónsson (Skj B) to refer to the Virgin Mary, but there is nothing that points to her in this st. Here hennar is understood to refer to Catherine, and the whole periphrasis of which hennar is part to refer to Christ as the bridegroom of the soul.
