Heiðinginn bað höggva síðan
háleitt víf, er stóð í báli;
fell á knie, sú er fyldi allan,
frú Cécílía, drottins vilja.
Benjar þrjár á hálsi hreinum
heilög mær er sagt að bæri;
eigi liet þó mildust meyja
mætust líf, þvíað drottinn gætir.
Síðan bað heiðinginn höggva háleitt víf, er stóð í báli; frú Cécílía, sú er fyldi allan vilja drottins, fell á knie. Er sagt, að heilög mær bæri þrjár benjar á hreinum hálsi; þó liet mildust, mætust meyja eigi líf, þvíað drottinn gætir.
Later the heathen man bade that the sublime woman, who stood in the conflagration, be beheaded; lady Cecilia, who fulfilled all the will of the Lord, fell to her knees. It is said that the holy maiden received three wounds on her pure neck; nonetheless, the gentlest, most precious, maiden did not lose her life, because the Lord watches over her.
