Sigmundr konungr Völsungs sonr átti Borghildi af Brálundi. Þau hétu son sinn Helga ok eftir Helga Hjörvarðs syni. Helga fóstraði Hagall. Hundingr hét ríkr konungr; við hann er Hundland kennt. Hann var hermaðr mikill ok átti marga sonu þá er í hernaði vóru. Ófriðr ok dylgjur vóru á milli þeira Hundings konungs ok Sigmundar konungs; drápu hvárir annarra frændr. Sigmundr konungr ok hans ættmenn hétu Völsungar ok Ylfingar. Helgi fór ok njósnaði til hirðar Hundings konungs álaun. Hemingr, sonr Hundings konungs, var heima. En er Helgi fór íbrott þá hitti hann hjarðar
