Gekk ek um Gautland í grimmum hug
sex dægr í samt, áðr Sæund fyndak.
Lét ek hans liðmenn hjörvi mæta,
sex ok átta með sjálfum gram.
Ek gekk um Gautland í grimmum hug sex dægr í samt, áðr fyndak Sæund. Ek lét liðmenn hans mæta hjörvi, sex ok átta með sjálfum gram.
‘I travelled through Götaland in angry mood for six days together before I came upon Sæundr. I caused his company to meet the sword, six and eight together with the chief himself. ’
The first two lines of this stanza are exactly the same as ll. 1-2 of ǪrvOdd Lv 19 (Ǫrv 52), which belongs to Oddr’s mannjafnaðr with Sjólfr and Sigurðr. Ǫrv 52 is found in all mss (cf. Ǫrv 1888, 164-5), and ll. 3-8 of this stanza are obviously a variant of Ǫrv 52/3-8.
