Heil vertu, drottning dýrðar,
dóma vegr og blómi,
skjöldr várr, skjól gott aldar,
skærleikr, dýgð og æra,
hjálpar staðr og stólpi,
stiett vitr og böls liettir,
gata lífs og ván ýta,
grein lofs og bót meina.

Heil vertu, drottning dýrðar, vegr og blómi dóma, skjöldr várr, gott skjól aldar, skærleikr, dýgð og æra, staðr hjálpar og stólpi, vitr stiett og liettir böls, gata lífs og ván ýta, grein lofs og bót meina.

Hail to you, queen of glory, glory and flower of judgements, our shield, good protection of mankind, radiance, glory and honour, place of help and pillar, wise foundation and reliever of evil, path of life and hope of men, praise [lit. branch of praise] and cure of evils.

Mss: B(14v), 399a-bˣ

Readings: [5] hjálpar staðr: so 399a‑bˣ, ‘hialp[...]’ B;    stólpi: ‘stolp[...]’ B, ‘stolpị’ 399a‑bˣ    [6] stiett: ‘[...]ett’ B, ‘s[...]tt’ 399a‑bˣ, ‘(s)[...]ett’(?) BRydberg, ‘st[...]’ BFJ    [8] grein lofs: so 399a‑bˣ, ‘g[...]ofs’ B

Editions: Skj AII, 471-2, Skj BII, 504, Skald II, 276, NN §2670; Rydberg 1907, 40-1, 58, Attwood 1996a, 114, 312.

Notes: [2] blómi dóma ‘flower of judgements’: Cf. blóm heilagra dóma ‘flower of holy judgements’ 6/6. — [7] ván ýta ‘hope of men’: Cf. Lat. spes nostra. B’s reading, gen. pl. ‘of men’, retained here, makes acceptable sense, but does not supply the required g-alliteration. Rydberg, followed by Skj B and Skald, retains the sense but substitutes gotna gen. pl. ‘of men’. Jón Sigurðsson (marginal n. to 444ˣ) suggests emendation to góð f. nom. sg. ‘good’, qualifying ván ‘hope’.
