Óbróðurliga vartu leikinn, in ágæta systir!
Vartu leikinn óbróðurliga, in ágæta systir!
You were treated in an unbrotherly way, excellent sister!
Mss: 203ˣ(111v), R715ˣ(34r) (Heiðr)
Editions: Skj AII, 254, Skj BII, 274, Skald II, 143; Heiðr 1672, 173, FSN 1, 500, Heiðr 1873, 280, Heiðr 1924, 150, FSGJ 2, 62, Heiðr 1960, 54 (Heiðr); NK 308, ÍF Edd. II, 426.
Context: When King Angantýr hears of the death of his sister (Heiðr 1960, 54), brá hann grǫnum ok tók seint til orða ‘he drew back his lips and was slow to speak’, but finally speaks these words.
Notes: [All]: These lines are prose, not poetry, although they contain alliterating staves. Heiðr 1672, FSN and Heiðr 1960 treat them as prose, while Skj B and Skald combine them with the four following lines here identified as st. 107, which are in málaháttr. — [1] óbróðurliga ‘in an unbrotherly way’: Hap. leg.
