Hringr ok Hálfdan, haukar báðir,
réttir dómendr, * Dagr inn prúði,
Stari ok Steingrímr, Styrr ok Gauti;
finnr þú aldri fríðari drengi.

‘Hringr and Hálfdan, both hawks, just judges, Dagr inn prúði (‘the Courageous’), Stari and Steingrímr, Styrr and Gauti; you will never find finer lads. ’

In the ms. this stanza consists of nine lines. Most eds regard the words Dana þjóðar ‘of the people of the Danes’ (l. 4) which do not seem to make much sense in the context, as a surplus line and cut it out. That has also been done here. Skj B prints the line within square brackets, while Edd. Min. keeps part of the line as dómendr Dana, but deletes réttir ‘just’ (l. 3) and þjóðar ‘of the people’ (l. 4). — [5-6]: The names in this line correspond to those in the prose text (Hálf 1981, 177-8), except that Stúfr is named there instead of Styrr (l. 6). This is probably an error in the verse text, as Styrr has already been named in l. 5 of the previous stanza. Edd. Min. and Hálf 1909 here emend Styrr to Stúfr.
