Notes: [2] hliða ekki * ‘not give way’: The ms.’s hliða við ‘give way’ is the only recorded instance of this verb being used with the prep. við in Old Norse, and most eds (except Hálf 1981) have omitted it, as is done here. The omission restores the line to metrical regularity. — [5] þeir sjálfir ‘they themselves’: This must refer to the enemies of the Hálfsrekkar, i.e. Ásmundr and his men. — [6] á sér ‘on their bodies’: Lit. ‘on themselves’.
