Notes: [1, 4] dóttur heilags þjóðkonungs ‘the daughter of the holy, mighty king’: Magnús married Ingibjǫrg, the daughter of Eiríkr plógpenningr ‘Plough-penny’ Valdimarsson of Denmark on 11 September 1261, right before his coronation. Eiríkr, the son of Valdimarr II Valdimarsson, ruled jointly with his father 1232-41 and became sole ruler of Denmark upon his father’s death in 1241. He was executed by his brother, Abel, on 10 August 1250. Eiríkr was pronounced a saint after his death, but his sanctity was never acknowledged by the Church. — [6] aldýrr konungr ‘very precious king’: Taken in Skj B and Skald as an apposition to snjallr Eiríkr ‘wise Eiríkr’ (l. 5). This seems less preferable because all the other helmingar contain an apostrophe to Magnús.
