Hákon’s campaign in the west. After harrying on the Scottish mainland in October of 1263, he sailed to Mull. On this expedition he recaptured all the dominions in Scotland and the Hebrides which King Magnús berfœttr (Mberf) had conquered.

For Magnús berfœttr’s expeditions to the west (1098-99, 1103), see Mberf Lv 1, Kali Lv 1, Bkrepp Magndr 5-11, Þham Magndr 2-3, 5 and Gísl Magnkv 9-16. — [2]: The l. echoes Eskál Vell 15/6I. — [8]: In the F version of this l., randveðrs boði grundar i.e. boði randveðrs grundar lit. ‘the messenger of the shield-storm of the land’, ‘the messenger of the shield-storm’ can be construed as a warrior-kenning, and grundar ‘of the land’ could possibly be taken with yngvi ‘king’ (l. 5). That would leave the verb reisti ‘raised’ (l. 5) without an object, however, and the scribe of F clearly tried to make sense of a reading he did not understand.
