Ok ófár brandr snekkju knátti svífa und göfugmenni austr með landi, glæstr gulli; floti allvalds varat auðligr.
And not a few prows of warships rocked beneath the nobleman east along the coast, adorned with gold; the fleet of the mighty ruler was not paltry.

Context: As st. 11 above.
Notes: [3] brandr snekkju ‘prows of warships’: Lit. ‘prow of the warship’ (sg.). See Bǫlv Hardr 2/2 and Note. — [5] glæstr gulli ‘adorned with gold’: Refers either to the carved or gilded ornaments on the gunwales curving up to the prow that were encrusted with gold, or to gilded weather-vanes fastened to the prows (see Note to Arn Hryn 10/7-8, Bǫlv Hardr 2/2, Valg Har 10-11, Halli XI, Fl 1/5, 8 and Note to Ív Sig 16/1). — [6] göfugmenni ‘the nobleman’: Could also be taken as a collective
(‘noblemen’), but the sg. has been chosen because of the parallel phrase in
st. 13/2 below. — [7-8]: The ll. are missing in E and have been supplied from the
majority readings. — [7] auðligr ‘paltry’: For a discussion of this word, see Whaley 1998, 292-3.
