{Feeder {of the swan {of the battle-serpent}}} [(lit. ‘swan-feeder of the battle-serpent’) SWORD > RAVEN/EAGLE > WARRIOR], there was great terror for the people from your journey; afterwards you began to redden the headland(s) of Sweden.

Context: The stanza is quoted after st. 4, either immediately, or with a brief prose link.

Notes: [All]: For a battle fought by Óláfr at Sótasker, assumed to be in Sweden, see Sigv Víkv 1. — [1] drótt ‘for the people’: A f. noun, to be construed here in the dat. and referring to Óláfr’s victims. — [4] rjóða ‘to redden’: The mss show fluctuation between rjóða and hrjóða ‘to strip, clear’, both acceptable verbs in the context. Ms. Kx and several ÓH mss have rjóða, but Skj B (even though using Kx as base ms.) chooses to print hrjóða instead; ÍF 27 prints rjóða; cf. Note to ÞKolb Eirdr 4/8.
