There I saw him, friend of the prince, sprinkled with sand at the chief church. Now stony ground, brightened by the sun, lies still over him in southern parts.

Context: The st. follows on immediately from Lv 4 above.
Notes: [1] þar ‘there’: This adverbial refers back to the p. n. Akrsborg in Lv 4, assuming the two sts are linked. The Flat variant (þá ‘then’) would have no obvious antecedent, but it is possible that there were intervening sts, now lost. — [7] birt ‘brightened’: The Flat variant, signuð ‘blessed’, is unmetrical, as kviðuháttr is characterised by its three-syllable odd-numbered ll.
