{Ræsir Þrœnda}, sás drýgði frama, vann farna gǫtu Róms fœti. Síðan sótti oddviti hers helga dóma ok hrauð synðum.

‘The ruler of the Þrœndir [NORWEGIAN KING = Sigurðr], who increased his honour, travelled the road to Rome on foot. Then the leader of the army visited holy shrines and expiated his sins.

notes and context

From Scotland Sigurðr proceeded to Rome, Palestine and the River Jordan, visiting holy shrines.

See Note to st. 3 [All]. Hkr (ÍF 28, 297) places the pilgrimage before Sigurðr’s stays in Orkney and Scotland, whereas Orkn (ÍF 34, 217) agrees with Mork in describing his progress from Scotland to Rome.
