Sigurðr engaged in a naval battle in the Straits of Gibraltar.
The prose texts are not very specific about Sigurðr’s adversaries. Hkr (ÍF 28, 244) calls them víkingaherr mikill ‘a large army of vikings’ (so also H-Hr, Fms 7, 81), and Mork (1928-32, 345) says that he fought against an army of heathen people (heʀ heiþiɴa manna; so also Fsk, ÍF 29, 316).
