Magnús fekk þar miklu
— margs gengis naut — lengri
— valr nam vǫll at hylja
varmr — fylkingararma.
Þar fekk Magnús miklu lengri fylkingararma; naut margs gengis; varmr valr nam at hylja vǫll.
‘There Magnús got much more extended ranks of troops; he enjoyed the advantage of a large following; warm carrion began to cover the field.’
The helmingr describes the battle of Färlev.
According to Hkr (ÍF 28, 280-1), Magnús’s army numbered 7,200 men, whereas Haraldr only had 1,800 warriors. Magnús marshalled his troops so that the wings of his army surrounded the forces of Haraldr.
