Stillir frietti hljóði hvellu
hafnar glóða eik að nafni;
fljóðið gjörði að birta bæði
baugs veitanda ætt og heiti.
Síðan spurði siklingr Þrúði
sævar bála sneldr í máli:
‘hvárt ætlar þú, hranna kertis,
hilmi, skorð, að sigra orðum?

Stillir frietti {eik {glóða hafnar}} hvellu hljóði að nafni; fljóðið gjörði að birta {veitanda baugs} bæði ætt og heiti. Síðan spurði siklingr {Þrúði {bála sævar}} sneldr í máli: ‘hvárt ætlar þú, {skorð {kertis hranna}}, að sigra hilmi orðum?

The ruler asked {the oak {of the red-hot embers of the harbour}} [GOLD > WOMAN] in a shrill voice for her name; the woman was prepared to reveal {to the giver of the ring} [GENEROUS MAN] both her heritage and her name. Subsequently, the king asked {the Þrúðr <goddess> {of the fires of the sea}} [GOLD > WOMAN] harsh in his speech: ‘do you intend, {prop {of the candle of the waves}} [GOLD > WOMAN], to win victory over the prince with words?
