Draumum sínum skulu eigi dróttir trúa;
tæla þeir ýta opt;
sofanda manni þykkir þat, er sjálfr, þegar at vakir,
æskir sér eða óaz.
Dróttir skulu eigi trúa draumum sínum; þeir tæla ýta opt; þat, er sjálfr æskir sér eða óaz, þegar at vakir, þykkir manni sofanda.
‘Men should not believe their dreams; they often deceive people; what he wishes for himself or fears when awake, appears to a man when asleep.’

Lat. parallel: (Dist. II, 31) Somnia ne cures, nam mens humana quod optat, / dum vigilat, sperat, per somnum cernit id ipsum ‘Do not pay attention to dreams; for the human mind hopes for what it wishes for while it is asleep, [and] through dreaming recognises that very thing [i.e. what it wishes for]’.
