text and translation

The new edition is either unpublished or unavailable. The following is taken from an old edition (Skj where relevant):

Þorgils Hálmuson er maður nefndur, bóndi sá er bjó á Stiklastöðum, faðir Gríms góða. Þorgils bauð konungi liðsemd sína og vera í bardaga með honum.

Konungur bað hann hafa þökk fyrir boð sitt. "En eg vil," segir konungur, "að þú búandi sért eigi í bardaga. Veit oss heldur hitt, að bjarg mönnum vorum eftir bardaga, þeim er sárir eru, en veit hinum umbúnað er falla í orustu, svo ef þeir atburðir verða, búandi, að eg fell í bardaga þessum, veit þá þjónustu líki mínu sem nauðsyn ber til ef þér er það eigi bannað."

Þorgils hét þessu konungi sem hann beiddi.
