The new edition is either unpublished or unavailable. The following is taken from an old edition (Skj where relevant):

Gissur Þorvaldsson var þessar stundir í Noregi með Hákoni konungi frænda sínum. Hann fór til Hallands með konunginum þá er það var brennt og báðir þeir Þórður Sighvatsson. Áttust þeir þá ekki við. Hafði hvortveggi þeirra góð metorð af konunginum. Það haust andaðist Þórður Sighvatsson sem fyrr er ritið. Hafði Gissur síðan meiri metorð eftir en áður af Hákoni konungi. Og það sumar er nú var frá sagt gaf Hákon konungur Gissuri jarlsnafn og skipaði honum allan Sunnlendingafjórðung og Norðlendingafjórðung og allan Borgarfjörð. Hákon konungur gaf Gissuri jarli stórgjafir áður hann fór út um sumarið. Hákon konungur fékk Gissuri jarli merki og lúður og setti hann í hásæti hjá sér og lét skutilsveina sína skenkja honum sem sjálfum sér. Gissur jarl var mjög heitbundinn við Hákon konung að skattur skyldi við gangast á Íslandi. Í Björgvin var Gissuri jarlsnafn gefið á einu ári hins fimmta tugar konungdóms Hákonar. Þá skorti Gissur jarl vetur á fimmtugan. En þá skorti hann vetur á fertugan er hann gekk suður, vetur á þrítugan er Örlygsstaðafundur var, vetur á tvítugan er hann gerðist skutilsveinn.
