text and translation

The new edition is either unpublished or unavailable. The following is taken from an old edition (Skj where relevant):

Nú sem þing var sett stóð upp Sigurður ullstrengur og mælti: "Það hygg eg flesta vita munu þá sem hér eru komnir að nú er veginn lögunautur vor Gjafvaldur og kom maður af Íslandi utan er sakir þóttist eiga við hann, hafandi þá atför að hann veitti honum þegar banasár en leitaði eigi eftir bótum sem öðrum mönnum er títt. Mun oss svo sýnast konungsmönnum sem lítið muni fyrir þykja að drepa hirðina ef þessa skal eigi hefna. Nú má vera að þeir láti svo ganga allt að höfðinu og þyrmi eigi heldur konunginum en öðrum mönnum. Nú eru slíkt ódáðaverk mikil og stórra hefnda fyrir vert og er eigi að bættra þó að tíu séu drepnir íslenskir fyrir einn norrænan og refsi þeim svo sína dirfð að þeir tóku mann úr konungs valdi."

Síðan þagnaði hann.

Þá stóð upp Teitur biskupsson og mælti: "Vill minn herra konungurinn gefa mér orlof til að tala?"

Konungurinn spurði þann mann er hjá honum stóð: "Hver beiddi talsins?"

"Herra," segir hann, "Teitur biskupsson."

Konungurinn mælti hátt: "Víst eigi viljum vér leyfa þér að tala því að öll orð þín munu spilla til þau er þú mælir og væri það maklegt að úr þér væri skorin tungan."

Báðu margir menn íslenskir sér hljóðs og orlofs og fékk enginn.
